Lions’ Jahmyr Gibbs Named One of NFL’s Best Running Backs

The Detroit Lions are gearing up for a fresh chapter in 2025 — and they’ve just received a dose of great news. With both longtime coordinators gone, some fans may be holding their breath, but there’s reason for optimism. The roster is stacked, the culture is solid, and now, a young star is getting national recognition that could signal even bigger things ahead.

In a new ranking from ESPN’s Jeremy Fowler, compiled with insight from NFL coaches, executives, and scouts, Lions running back Jahmyr Gibbs was named the third-best RB in the entire NFL. That’s right — only Saquon Barkley and Derrick Henry came in ahead of the electric Detroit back.

Gibbs, who’s entering his third year, is already being compared to Reggie Bush — only with “a little more power,” according to one AFC executive. He lit up the league in 2024 with 20 touchdowns and averaged a league-best 6.4 yards per touch among players with 250 touches. His ability to break open a game with one run has made him must-see TV.

The hype doesn’t stop there. Pro Football Focus slotted Gibbs as the No. 2 fantasy running back for 2025, citing changes in Detroit’s offensive coaching staff that could give him even more opportunities this season. And with David Montgomery still in the mix, the Lions’ backfield is set to be one of the most dynamic duos in the league.

All signs are pointing up for Detroit — and if Gibbs continues on this trajectory, he could be the one carrying the Lions straight into their first Super Bowl.
