The Mets tried to lock in their star first baseman, Pete Alonso, this offseason, but things didn’t go as planned. They reportedly offered him a three-year deal worth $68–70 million, but Alonso and his team said, “No thanks.”
Apparently, Alonso’s camp was aiming much higher, and the Mets weren’t willing to meet those demands. Instead, they switched gears and started looking at other options. For context, the offer was more than what the Astros gave Christian Walker (three years, $60 million), but still not enough for Alonso’s liking.
Alonso has been with the Mets since 2019, starting strong with a Rookie of the Year season where he smashed 53 homers and drove in 120 RBIs. But the past couple of years have been rough at the plate. In 2024, he hit .240 with 34 homers, 88 RBIs, and struck out a whopping 172 times, ending with a career-low .788 OPS. Now, as the 2025 season looms, Alonso is still a free agent, leaving fans to wonder where he’ll land next.
