The Detroit Lions are banking on wide receiver Jameson Williams to play a pivotal role in their success during the 2025 season — especially when it comes to winning big games.
So far in training camp, Williams has been one of the most talked-about players through the team’s first seven practices. His elite speed, sharper route-running, and visible maturity have stood out on the field and in film sessions. Teammates and coaches alike are taking notice.
Defensive back Brian Branch didn’t hold back when asked about the former Alabama star.
“He’s going deep, he’s definitely been going deep,” Branch said. “But, I feel like, get your popcorn ready for Jamo, man. It’s gonna be fun to watch him this year. I feel like that’s exactly what we need. The whole offense, it’s gonna be fun to watch.”
Offensive coordinator John Morton is also excited about Williams’ development and what it could mean for the offense this year. He highlighted the team’s depth and the evolution of Williams’ skill set.
“You’ve seen the skill set. He’s very explosive. This is, what, year four? He’s gotten better every year. He’s matured,” said Morton. “It’s tough for a young receiver to come in this league, because they don’t run a lot of different routes in college. Now, he’s progressed through and I’m gonna take that skill set and isolate him.”
Morton added that while younger players are getting more reps during preseason prep, the staff is confident in Williams’ growth.
“I think he’s been phenomenal… He’s gonna help us win some big games this season, obviously.”
