Detroit Lions rookie defensive tackle Tyleik Williams is feeling the heat—and the excitement—as he prepares for his first taste of NFL action. With the Hall of Fame Game against the Chargers just around the corner, the former Ohio State standout is likely to see the field early and often.
When asked about his status for the preseason opener, Williams responded with the kind of quiet focus coaches love: “If my number’s called, I’ll be ready. That’s all I can control.”
But while he’s locked in now, Williams also opened up about the moment he realized just how different the pros are from college ball. It came during one of his early reps in training camp when he got steamrolled by a veteran offensive lineman. “That was my ‘welcome to the league’ moment,” he said with a grin. “You learn quick—everybody’s good here.”
The Lions are hopeful that Williams, known for his burst and strength at the point of attack, can become a valuable rotational piece on their revamped defensive line. For now, he’s staying humble, putting in the work, and getting ready for his first real NFL snap in Canton.
