Detroit’s offensive stars rediscover their rhythm under Dan Campbell’s renewed play-calling approach
Lions’ Dynamic Duo Shine in Commanding Win
After several weeks of inconsistency, the Detroit Lions offense finally roared back to life in their dominant 44–22 victory over the Washington Commanders on Sunday. With head coach Dan Campbell taking over play-calling duties, the unit looked revitalized — and two of Detroit’s brightest stars, quarterback Jared Goff and running back Jahmyr Gibbs, led the charge.
Their standout performances earned both players nominations for the FedEx Air & Ground Players of the Week for Week 10 — a fan-voted honor recognizing the league’s top aerial and rushing performances. The Lions were the only team to feature two nominees this week, further underscoring their offensive resurgence.
Joining Goff and Gibbs among the nominees are Los Angeles Rams quarterback Matthew Stafford, Indianapolis Colts running back Jonathan Taylor, Miami Dolphins running back De’Von Achane, and New England Patriots running back Treveyon Henderson.
Goff Rediscovers His Groove
Coming off a tough loss to the Minnesota Vikings in Week 9, Jared Goff bounced back in emphatic fashion. With Campbell guiding the offense directly, Goff looked poised and in control, throwing for 320 yards, three touchdowns, and no turnovers.
His 75.8% completion rate marked one of his most efficient outings of the season, and his 135.9 passer rating was the best among all quarterbacks in Week 10 (pending Monday Night Football). Goff even found a consistent rhythm with wide receiver Jameson Williams, who had struggled to connect in recent weeks.
The veteran quarterback has now been nominated for the FedEx Air Player of the Week honor for the seventh time in his career. His last win came alongside Gibbs in Week 7 of the 2024 season — another reminder of what Detroit’s offense can accomplish when firing on all cylinders.
Gibbs Electrifies with Three-Touchdown Showcase
Meanwhile, Jahmyr Gibbs delivered a performance that reminded everyone why he’s one of the NFL’s most explosive dual-threat weapons. After a quiet outing against Minnesota, Gibbs erupted for 142 rushing yards on just 15 carries, including a dazzling 43-yard touchdown run.
The second-year running back also added 30 receiving yards and a receiving touchdown, totaling three scores on the day. That effort brought his season total to 10 touchdowns, putting him well on pace for another elite year after leading the league with 20 a season ago.
Gibbs’ blend of speed, balance, and vision was on full display — and with Campbell’s more aggressive offensive approach, Detroit’s backfield looks as dangerous as ever.
A Sign of Things to Come for Detroit
While competition for the weekly honors remains tough — with Jonathan Taylor’s 286-yard, three-touchdown outburst and Matthew Stafford’s four-touchdown showing among the highlights — the Lions’ offensive revival is what truly stands out.
Even if Goff or Gibbs fall short of the fan-voted award, their Week 10 performance proved Detroit’s offense is back on track. If Campbell continues calling plays with this kind of precision and confidence, expect to see both players nominated again — and the Lions continuing to climb the NFC standings.
