The Lions’ defensive scheme heavily emphasizes man and press coverage, requiring cornerbacks to excel in one-on-one situations. Arnold embraced this challenge, leading the NFL in man coverage snaps with 307, almost 100 more than any other rookie cornerback. Despite giving up four touchdowns, Arnold consistently held his own against top receivers in the league.

“I learned a lot,” Arnold said. “Coming into this role, it was a lot, but I got better as the season went on and started to find myself. It’s one of those things where I’m really looking forward to next year. The only way to ease the pain of this type of heartache is to get back to work.”
Arnold ended his rookie campaign without recording his first career interception, but he views his season as invaluable experience. Facing the league’s top wide receivers in man coverage tested his skills early and often, and he’s confident it will pay off.
“A lot of teams sit back and play zone,” Arnold noted. “I had to go out there and challenge receiver ones, and I’m young. I know I’ll be the best corner in the league pretty soon.”
