After the first week of free agency, the roster picture for the Detroit Lions is starting to take shape — but the current depth chart has left many fans scratching their heads.
General manager Brad Holmes has made several moves to reshape the roster, including adding players and allowing others to depart. However, some positions still look uncertain, creating plenty of debate about how the team plans to line up heading into the next stage of the offseason.
Changes in the Backfield
One of the biggest shifts came at running back following the departure of David Montgomery.
Detroit moved quickly to bring in Isiah Pacheco, who now joins explosive playmaker Jahmyr Gibbs in the Lions’ backfield. While the duo could create an exciting combination, it also represents a significant change in the team’s offensive identity.
Fans are still trying to figure out exactly how the carries and roles will be divided.
Questions Along the Offensive Line
The offensive line — long considered one of Detroit’s strengths — also has some uncertainty right now.
With longtime left tackle Taylor Decker no longer in the picture, the Lions appear to be exploring several options to fill the void. Additions like Larry Borom and Cade Mays bring depth, but they don’t necessarily settle the starting lineup.
That leaves a major question mark protecting quarterback Jared Goff.
Defensive Uncertainty
Detroit’s defensive depth chart also has areas that still feel unsettled.
The Lions continue to build around star pass rusher Aidan Hutchinson, but many fans expected the team to add another major edge threat early in free agency.
So far, that splash move hasn’t happened — at least not yet.
🏈 The Bottom Line
After one week of free agency, the Lions’ depth chart feels more like a work in progress than a finished product.
With the NFL Draft still ahead and additional moves possible, Detroit clearly isn’t done reshaping the roster. But for now, the team’s current lineup raises just as many questions as it answers. 🦁🏈
