$112M Star in Line for Major Position Switch? Lions Fans React”

The Detroit Lions could be preparing to make one of their boldest—and riskiest—moves of the offseason.
According to league insiders, Detroit is seriously considering shifting All-Pro tackle Penei Sewell from right tackle to the left side, a move that would dramatically reshape the offensive line heading into the 2026 season.
The idea comes in response to a growing need at left tackle following the departure of longtime starter Taylor Decker. Rather than relying solely on the draft to fill that gap, the Lions may turn to their most dominant lineman to protect quarterback Jared Goff’s blindside.
However, the move is far from simple.
While Sewell has established himself as one of the league’s elite right tackles, switching sides is widely considered a major adjustment—even for top-tier players. It requires different footwork, instincts, and technique, making it a gamble for a team with Super Bowl aspirations.
At the same time, Detroit is expected to target offensive line help in the first round of the upcoming draft. With the No. 17 pick, prospects like Kadyn Proctor and Monroe Freeling have emerged as potential options.
Both players bring size and long-term upside, but neither is considered a guaranteed immediate solution—adding another layer of uncertainty to Detroit’s plan.
That leaves the Lions facing a difficult decision:
Do they trust Sewell to make the switch and stabilize the line immediately, or keep him in his dominant role and rely on a rookie to step into one of the most important positions on the field?
Either way, the outcome could define Detroit’s season.
