The Mets’ farm system has been buzzing with talent over the past few years. First, it was the “Baby Mets” in 2022—Francisco Álvarez, Brett Baty, Mark Vientos, and Ronny Mauricio. Then, 2023 brought in a new wave of prospects from trade deadline deals, like Luisangel Acuña, Drew Gilbert, and Ryan Clifford.
Some of these guys are already making their mark in the majors, while others are getting closer. But there’s one name flying under the radar—Jeremy Rodriguez.
A Trade That Might Be a Steal for the Mets
Rodriguez joined the Mets in 2023 at just 17 years old, coming over in a trade that sent Tommy Pham to Arizona. At the time, he had played just 38 games in the Dominican Summer League, putting up solid numbers—hitting .246 with a .363 on-base percentage.
Once he landed in the Mets’ system, though, he took things to another level. Over his final 56 plate appearances that season, he put up a ridiculous .422/.536/.711 slash line, with nearly three times as many walks (11) as strikeouts (4). Sure, that pace wasn’t sustainable, but it hinted at his potential.
Rodriguez Continues to Impress in 2024
Fast forward to 2024, and Rodriguez didn’t slow down. Playing in the Florida Complex League, he kept up his strong play, hitting .282 with a .355 OBP, 3 home runs, 20 RBIs, and 17 stolen bases in 50 games.
His plate discipline is still a standout trait. He drew 21 walks while striking out 37 times—slightly less impressive than his near 1:1 ratio in 2023, but still a sign of a hitter with a mature approach for his age.
At just 18, Rodriguez is still a long way from the big leagues, but he’s quickly becoming one of the Mets’ most exciting young prospects. If he keeps trending upward, this under-the-radar trade could turn out to be a huge win for New York.
