The Lakers shocked everyone on Saturday night with a huge trade, sending Anthony Davis, Max Christie, and a 2029 first-round pick to the Dallas Mavericks in exchange for Luka Doncic, Maxi Kleber, and Markieff Morris. It caught the entire sports world off guard, and even NFL stars reacted to the news.
Davis had missed the Lakers’ last two games due to an abdominal strain, but there was no sign he wanted out or that LeBron was pushing for a trade. Doncic, a 25-year-old superstar, is averaging 28.1 points, 8.3 rebounds, and 7.8 assists this season. He’s a serious playmaker who led the Mavs to the NBA Finals last summer.
With Doncic on board, the Lakers now have two lethal superstars—him and LeBron—who can share the load. Austin Reaves, the team’s rising guard, is still around, and it’ll be interesting to see how the chemistry plays out between them.
However, the Lakers now have a weak spot at center. Jaxson Hayes is the new full-time starter, but beyond him, they’ve got unproven prospects like Christian Koloko and Trey Jemison III. Kleber could help defensively, though he’s struggling with his three-point shot this season. Morris, a 35-year-old veteran who won a championship with the Lakers in 2020, returns after a limited role this season.
It’s a bold move for L.A., and fans are eager to see how it all unfolds.
