After the Steelers’ rough 28-14 loss in the Wild Card Round, it’s understandable why fans aren’t feeling too optimistic. The coaching staff is mostly staying the same, and at least one of Russell Wilson or Justin Fields is expected to return in 2025. With no real game-changing options at quarterback, the Steelers are stuck in a bit of a rut. But that doesn’t mean the offense can’t improve—there are some promising signs heading into next season.
1) A Younger, Healthier Offensive Line
Pittsburgh’s offensive struggles started up front. Rookie tackle Troy Fautanu missed nearly the whole season with a knee injury, right guard James Daniels tore his Achilles after a strong start, and guard Isaac Seumalo had a delayed start to the year. In total, 10 different linemen played at least 40 snaps. Despite all that, center Zach Frazier showed first-round talent, and with Fautanu’s return, the O-line should see a major boost. If they add another guard or left tackle, the line could go from shaky to elite in 2025.
2) Tight Ends Are Locked In for the Future
With receiver depth lacking, the Steelers leaned on their tight ends in 2024. Pat Freiermuth was the second-most targeted player behind George Pickens, racking up 65 catches, 653 yards, and seven touchdowns. Any improvements at wide receiver will help him get even better matchups. Meanwhile, Darnell Washington fits perfectly in Arthur Smith’s offense, acting as both a solid pass-catching option and an extra blocker in the run game. That gives Pittsburgh more flexibility in play-action, which Smith loves to use.
3) A More Explosive Running Game
Najee Harris has been solid, consistently hitting 1,000-yard seasons, but he hasn’t provided many big plays. With his future in Pittsburgh uncertain, the Steelers could turn to the NFL Draft, which features its deepest running back class since 2017. A fresh, explosive running back could be the perfect complement to Jaylen Warren—if he returns as a restricted free agent. Whether they go all-in on a top-tier back or just add depth, Pittsburgh has a chance to revamp its ground game and solve its early-down struggles.
While the quarterback situation remains murky, these improvements could help the Steelers’ offense take a big step forward in 2025.
