Could the Steelers Pull Off a Trade for Rams’ QB-WR Duo?

The Pittsburgh Steelers’ offseason strategy revolves around securing a top-tier quarterback and wide receiver to address their persistent offensive struggles. While options like re-signing Justin Fields or drafting a playmaker in the first round remain on the table, a more intriguing possibility is acquiring Matthew Stafford and Cooper Kupp from the Los Angeles Rams.

Stafford’s availability remains uncertain, but Sports Illustrated’s Albert Breer believes the Steelers should at least test the waters.

“I think this one’s really up in the air,” Breer said on FS1’s The Herd. “That contract negotiation was strained last year… If I’m a team like the Pittsburgh Steelers, I’m at least calling right now to see if he’s available because I don’t think it’s a sure thing that he’s back.”

NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport has confirmed that Stafford intends to play in 2025, but whether he and the Rams are aligned on a future together remains in question. His contract, which lacks guaranteed money beyond 2024, could be a sticking point. If negotiations stall, a trade could be in play.

The 16-year veteran is coming off a strong 2024 campaign, throwing for 3,762 yards, 20 touchdowns, and eight interceptions while leading the Rams to an NFC West title and a Wild Card round victory over the Vikings.

Meanwhile, Kupp—who famously won the receiving triple crown in 2021—has reportedly been made available for trade, despite his desire to remain in Los Angeles. The 31-year-old has struggled with injuries in recent years but remains a valuable asset, tallying 2,259 yards over his last 33 games.

While Stafford is the less likely of the two to be moved, a package deal could instantly reshape Pittsburgh’s offensive outlook for 2025. If the Steelers can pull it off, they would land a proven quarterback-receiver duo capable of elevating their attack to playoff contention.
