Asim Richards stepped up in his role, and who knows, he might even challenge for a starting spot in the future.
I was always a fan of Cooper coming out of Kansas State, and he had a solid season last year with the Cowboys. What makes him even more valuable is his versatility—he can play both center and guard. This could be huge for Dallas, especially if they find a more natural center than Beebe in the future and need him to step in at guard.
Looking ahead to 2025, the Cowboys could be facing a significant challenge: future Hall of Famer Zack Martin’s contract is set to expire. Last season, a nagging ankle injury limited him to just 10 games, and now the focus is on his recovery. Martin himself has spoken about his uncertain future: “I’m focused on getting healthy,” he said during an interview with 105.3 The Fan in Dallas. “I think people forget, I’m a free agent. So, I’m not under contract with anyone. First and foremost, I want to get healthy and then when free agency rolls around, see what’s going on, and then make a decision from there.”
Should the Cowboys lose Martin, it would leave a sizable hole in their offensive line, something they would have to address.
Tyler Smith is a rising star, and the team doesn’t need to worry about him, but it looks like they’ll be relying on some younger players like Beebe, Guyton, and maybe even Terence Steele.
Speaking of Steele, after signing a five-year, $86.8 million extension, he had what could be considered his worst season with the Cowboys. While the team has the option to opt out of his contract in 2026, that will likely be something they revisit down the line.
To add to the changes, the Cowboys recently brought in Klayton Adams from the Cardinals to serve as their offensive line coach. Adams will bring a fresh perspective, considering his experience as the offensive line coach in Arizona.
Another issue the team may face is the potential loss of right guard Will Hernandez, whose two-year, $9 million contract with the Cardinals ended after the 2024 season. Hernandez was quoted during Super Bowl week, expressing confidence in the Cowboys’ decision-making: “They found the right guy,” he said.
Ultimately, the Cowboys may need to bring in another offensive lineman through free agency or trade, or they could again rely on the draft, hoping to hit as well as they did with Tyler Smith. So far, Guyton hasn’t quite proven to be the answer.
The Cowboys have plenty of work to do before the 2025 season kicks off, and relying on two young players in key spots could prove to be a risky gamble.
