The Oklahoma Sooners have a lot of bragging rights, but when it comes to losses, there’s one team that’s got their number—Texas.
While the Sooners have piled up 92 wins against Oklahoma State in the Bedlam rivalry, their matchups with the Longhorns have been a different story. Texas leads the all-time series 64-51-5, making them the team OU has lost to the most in football.
The Red River Rivalry has been going on for 120 games, which is more than any other series the Sooners have played. The next closest is Bedlam, with 118 meetings, but that’s coming to an end since OU is now in the SEC and won’t face OSU every year.
Despite the losing record to Texas, the rivalry hasn’t been one-sided for long stretches. Texas had an eight-game winning streak twice (1940-47 and 1958-65), while OU’s longest was six straight wins from 1952-57. The Sooners actually had their own run, winning four in a row from 2018-2021 and five straight from 2000-2004.
However, for all those streaks, Texas still leads. The Sooners need 13 more wins to catch up, which is definitely doable in the long run. But no matter what, it’ll sting a bit knowing that the Longhorns have the upper hand in this rivalry. Nebraska, the next team to beat the Sooners most, is a long way behind with just 38 wins.
For now, and probably for the foreseeable future, Sooner fans will have to live with the fact that Texas is their biggest rival, and they’ve got the edge in this rivalry, just like Oklahoma State fans do in Bedlam.
