The Dallas Cowboys recently filled their head coaching vacancy by promoting Brian Schottenheimer, who previously served as the team’s offensive coordinator. Before making the decision, team owner Jerry Jones interviewed several candidates for the role, including Colorado head coach and NFL Hall of Famer Deion Sanders.
During an appearance on the NFL Network with Rich Eisen, Sanders shared that his conversation with Jones went beyond football strategy, touching on philosophical topics that gave him plenty to think about. As the conversation unfolded, Sanders also revealed the humorous nickname he has for Jones in his phone.
“Direct Deposit, DD,” Sanders said with a laugh. “That’s what he’s under. I don’t put anybody’s real names, so Direct Deposit. That’s what it was years ago.”
Sanders is widely recognized as one of the greatest cornerbacks in NFL history. His illustrious 14-season career included stints with several teams, such as the Dallas Cowboys, San Francisco 49ers, Atlanta Falcons, Baltimore Ravens, and Washington Redskins. He was an eight-time Pro Bowler and earned All-Pro honors six times. Additionally, Sanders played a pivotal role in winning Super Bowl titles with the Cowboys and 49ers.
In 1994, Sanders was named Defensive Player of the Year and was later inducted into the Pro Football Hall of Fame. His impact on the game was further acknowledged when he was selected to the Hall of Fame’s All-1990s Team.
