The Minnesota Golden Gophers wrestling team secured a 20-17 victory over the Ohio State Buckeyes on Friday. The win came down to the final match, where No. 4 Max McEnelly defeated No. 19 Ryder Rogotzke 15-5 at 184 pounds.
McEnelly’s victory was a rematch of the 2023 Minnesota high school state final, where he also defeated Rogotzke. The Gophers’ win marked their fifth consecutive dual victory and improved their record to 9-1 overall and 5-1 in the Big Ten.
Other key victories for the Gophers came from No. 8 Tommy Askey, who secured a major decision at 157 pounds, and No. 11 Andrew Sparks, who dominated at 165 pounds with an 18-1 technical fall. Heavyweight Gable Steveson also extended his winning streak to 61 matches with a 13-4 victory.
