While the Kansas City Chiefs will take most of the heat after their blowout loss in Super Bowl LIX, Pittsburgh Steelers head coach Mike Tomlin unexpectedly found himself in the spotlight—during a commercial break.
A fourth-quarter ad from local Pittsburgh law firm Romanow Law took aim at Tomlin’s recent struggles, asking:
“Is there an area of law that focuses on firing underperforming football coaches?”
The ad ended with a jab at Tomlin’s well-known phrase, “the standard.”
Mounting Pressure on Tomlin
With eight straight seasons without a playoff win, Tomlin is facing more scrutiny than ever from both local and national media. Despite signing a three-year, $50 million extension before the 2024 season, his future remains a hot topic of debate.
The Steelers, once again, will try to break through in 2025. However, with a shaky quarterback situation and few appealing external options, competing in an AFC stacked with elite quarterbacks won’t be easy.
Steelers’ Offseason Moves: Enough to Compete?
Pittsburgh made minimal coaching changes, retaining both coordinators and only adjusting positional coaching staff. The team is expected to pursue a No. 2 wide receiver and add youth to the defensive line through free agency or the draft. However, these moves are unlikely to drastically change their trajectory.
In a division featuring Lamar Jackson and Joe Burrow, the Steelers are projected to finish third in the AFC North. With the team merely aiming for a Wild Card spot—not true Super Bowl contention—pressure will continue to mount as losses pile up.
Ownership Stands Firm
Despite Tomlin’s sub-.500 playoff record and six straight postseason losses, Steelers owner Art Rooney II appears content sticking with him. However, frustrated fans—including those willing to buy local ad spots—clearly feel otherwise.
