Cleveland Browns running back Nick Chubb has expressed a strong desire to continue his career with the team, despite the absence of contract discussions as he approaches free agency. Chubb, who has been with the Browns since being drafted in 2018, stated, “Of course. This is where I was drafted. This is where I’ve played the last seven years.”
Over his first five seasons, Chubb established himself as one of the NFL’s premier running backs, averaging 1,466 yards from scrimmage and 10 touchdowns per season. His standout 2022 season included 1,764 offensive yards and 13 touchdowns, earning him his first All-Pro selection.
However, the past two seasons have been challenging for Chubb. A severe knee injury in 2023 limited him to just two games, and a broken foot in 2024 further sidelined him after eight games. These injuries have introduced uncertainty regarding his future with the Browns.
As he enters free agency for the first time, Chubb is eager to finalize his future plans promptly. He remarked, “I’m not sure how it’ll work. This is the first time I’ve been a free agent. But I’d like to get it done sooner than later.”
The Browns face a pivotal decision regarding Chubb’s future, weighing his significant contributions against recent injury concerns. General Manager Andrew Berry has acknowledged Chubb’s impact on the organization but described the impending free agency as a “challenging situation,” suggesting the team may be considering all options.
Chubb’s dedication to Cleveland is evident. He shared, “Man, just for me, the city of Cleveland means a lot. To me, it’s a special place. The people in Cleveland make it great, the fans and just the people around the city. But always a special place to me in my heart. I loved it here and it will always be home, no matter what.”
As the free agency period approaches, both Chubb and the Browns will need to navigate the complexities of his contract situation, balancing loyalty and past performance with future potential and health considerations.
