NFL Shake-Up: Patriots, Steelers Eye Blockbuster Trade for Star Player

The New England Patriots and Pittsburgh Steelers are reportedly two teams to watch in the trade market for star wide receiver Deebo Samuel, according to NFL insider James Palmer.

Both franchises enter the offseason in different situations. Pittsburgh finished the season with a solid 10-7 record, while New England struggled at the bottom of the AFC East in the first year of their rebuild. However, they share a common need—wide receiver help.

Patriots, Steelers Eyeing Deebo Samuel?

Reports surfaced over the weekend that Samuel requested a trade from the San Francisco 49ers during his exit interview. The Pro Bowl wideout has been the subject of trade rumors for the past couple of years, and his availability is expected to draw widespread interest.

Palmer believes the Steelers could target Samuel for two key reasons:

  • Adding another top-tier option alongside George Pickens.
  • Uncertainty about Pickens’ long-term future in Pittsburgh, making Samuel a potential WR1 replacement.

For the Patriots, the motivation is clear—they desperately need an elite receiver to support rookie quarterback Drake Maye. New England has also been linked to Bengals wideout Tee Higgins in free agency.

Deebo Samuel’s Contract & Trade Outlook

  • Contract: 3 years, $75.3 million
  • 2024 Stats: 15 games, 81 receptions, 670 yards, 13.1 yards per catch

Both New England and Pittsburgh previously pursued a trade for Samuel’s teammate Brandon Aiyuk last summer, signaling their intent to upgrade at the position. With Samuel now on the trade block, they could renew their interest in a top-tier pass-catcher.
