The Pittsburgh Steelers have initiated adjustments to their coaching staff following a disappointing 2024 season. However, these changes have not met the expectations of many fans and analysts who anticipated more substantial overhauls.
Recently, the Steelers announced the hiring of Gerald Alexander as their new defensive backs coach, replacing Grady Brown, whose contract was not renewed. Alexander previously served as the team’s assistant defensive backs coach from 2022 to 2023 before a stint with the Las Vegas Raiders in 2024.
Despite this move, some within the Steelers community feel that the coaching changes are insufficient. Critics argue that adjustments at the positional coach level may not address the broader issues that contributed to the team’s late-season collapse. The Steelers concluded the 2024 season with a five-game losing streak, leading to calls for more significant changes within the coaching hierarchy.
Owner Art Rooney II has acknowledged the need for coaching changes, but as of now, the alterations have been limited to lower-level positions. Defensive coordinator Teryl Austin remains under contract through 2025, suggesting stability in higher-level coaching roles.
The limited scope of these changes has led to disappointment among fans who were hoping for a more comprehensive restructuring of the coaching staff to address the team’s challenges.
