NFL Expert Says This Super Bowl Star Would Be a Game-Changer for Detroit

Josh Sweat to the Lions? Super Bowl Star Could Be the Perfect Fit in Free Agency

After a dominant performance in Super Bowl LIX, Josh Sweat has put himself in the spotlight as one of the top pass rushers hitting free agency. With the Detroit Lions in need of a strong edge rusher to pair with Aidan Hutchinson, analysts are pointing to Sweat as an ideal fit in Detroit.

Sweat had a strong 2024 season, recording 54 quarterback pressures and eight sacks, but he truly shined on the biggest stage. Against the Kansas City Chiefs, he racked up 2.5 sacks and six pressures on Patrick Mahomes, proving he can deliver when it matters most. That kind of playmaking ability is exactly what the Lions need to take their defense to the next level.

Bleacher Report’s Mitch Milani believes Sweat’s skill set would be a perfect complement to Hutchinson, giving Detroit a dynamic duo on the edge. Unlike some of the higher-priced trade targets like Myles Garrett or Maxx Crosby, Sweat is projected to command a three-year deal worth around $50-56 million, making him a more affordable option.

The big question is whether the Lions will enter the bidding war. With their Super Bowl window open, adding Sweat could be the final piece to solidify their defense. Should Detroit make the move?
