Trade Talk: Lions May Have to Sacrifice Core Player for Myles Garrett

Should the Lions Trade for Myles Garrett? A Bold Proposal Sparks Debate
The idea of the Detroit Lions making a move for Cleveland Browns defensive end Myles Garrett has been gaining steam, and now a new trade proposal is making the rounds. Brett Whitefield of Fantasy Points suggested a deal where Detroit would send safety Kerby Joseph, a 2025 third-round pick, and a 2026 first-round pick to Cleveland in exchange for Garrett and a 2025 fifth-round pick.

At first glance, the trade seems like a potential game-changer. Garrett, the 2023 Defensive Player of the Year, would instantly elevate Detroit’s defensive line, pairing with Aidan Hutchinson to create one of the most feared pass-rushing duos in the league. But is it realistic?

There are several reasons to doubt this proposal. For one, the Lions highly value Joseph, who is entering the final year of his rookie deal and is expected to receive a big contract extension. If Detroit sees him as a long-term piece, trading him away—along with a valuable first-rounder—might be too steep a price. Additionally, the Browns’ salary cap situation suggests they would likely prefer younger, cheaper players rather than someone about to get paid.

While Whitefield called this a “starting point” for negotiations, it’s unclear whether either team would seriously consider it. The Lions might be interested in Garrett, but they would likely want to keep Joseph and instead offer draft capital. On the other hand, the Browns would need an overwhelming offer to part ways with one of the best defensive players in football.

Would you make this trade if you were the Lions? Or is giving up Joseph and a future first-rounder too much for Garrett?
