NFC Coaching Roundup: Key Moves for Saints, Cowboys, Lions & More

NFC Coaching Updates: Notable Moves for Lions, Saints, Cowboys, and More
Saints Make Coaching Moves:
The New Orleans Saints are bringing in Chase Haslett as their new tight ends coach, marking a reunion of sorts with the Haslett family. Chase is the son of former Saints head coach Jim Haslett, who guided the team from 2000-2005. Chase joins from the Cowboys, where he worked with tight ends like Dalton Schultz and Jake Ferguson. Additionally, the Saints are welcoming Brendan Nugent back to oversee the offensive line. Nugent previously coached New Orleans’ O-line from 2015-2021 and returns after a stint with the Seattle Seahawks. Keith Williams will also stay on as the team’s wide receivers coach.

Lions Hire Tashard Choice:
After interviewing for the Cowboys’ running backs coach position, former Dallas running back Tashard Choice is headed to Detroit. The Lions are hiring him to coach their backfield, where he will work with Jahmyr Gibbs, whom he coached at Georgia Tech. The move also sees the Lions shifting Scottie Montgomery from running backs coach to wide receivers coach. Montgomery, a former NFL wideout, will now take over from Antwaan Randle El. In another significant coaching change, the Lions are hiring Tyler Roehl as tight ends coach after his successful tenure at North Dakota State.

Falcons, Giants, and Cowboys Updates:
In Atlanta, T.J. Yates will return for his second season as the Falcons’ quarterbacks coach, but he’ll also take on the role of pass-game coordinator. Yates is tasked with developing Michael Penix Jr., after Atlanta’s attempt to pair Kirk Cousins with Penix. Over in New York, Christian Daboll, the son of Giants head coach Brian Daboll, is leaving the team to pursue another career path after two seasons as an offensive assistant. Lastly, JJ Clark is joining the Cowboys in a quality control role after coaching UTEP’s defense last season.

These coaching changes show continued shifts across the NFC, with the Lions, Saints, and Falcons all making adjustments to their staffs as they look to improve in 2025.
