Lions Projected to Draft Former Big Ten Sack Leader in 2025 NFL Draft
The Detroit Lions, despite their already talented roster, are expected to remain active during the 2025 offseason as they continue to address key needs. Among those areas are edge rusher, cornerback, and possibly offensive line. While the Lions have plenty of cap space and options in free agency, they are also likely to make some strategic moves in the draft.
In a new mock draft from Athlon Sports, analyst Luke Easterling predicts that the Lions will use the 28th overall pick to select Nic Scourton, an edge rusher from Texas A&M. Scourton had an up-and-down 2024 season, recording only five sacks after leading the Big Ten with 10 sacks in 2023 at Purdue. His potential, however, remains high given his impressive athleticism and early success. Scourton will turn just 21 in August, leaving plenty of room for growth.
In the second round, Easterling projects the Lions to add another SEC standout, Trey Amos, a cornerback from Ole Miss. Amos had a standout 2024 season, allowing just 51.6% completion against him and picking off more passes than touchdowns allowed. He would offer a safer pick to balance the potential risk of selecting Scourton.
While Scourton’s development could make him a solid fit for Detroit, it’s suggested that the Lions may look to address their edge rusher need through free agency before taking a risk on a high-upside pick like Scourton. However, if they decide to go the draft route, pairing him with Amos could help round out their roster as they continue their push toward a Super Bowl contender.
