Matt Patricia Returns to Coaching at Ohio State as Defensive Coordinator
Matt Patricia, the former Detroit Lions head coach who was notoriously unpopular during his time in Detroit, is making a return to the football world—this time at Ohio State University. After a rough stint in Detroit from 2018 to 2020, Patricia is resurfacing in Columbus, where he has been hired as the Buckeyes’ new defensive coordinator.
Known for his defensive mind and Super Bowl-winning tenure with the New England Patriots, Patricia’s move to Ohio State comes just a few hours from Detroit. His last role in the NFL was as a senior defensive assistant with the Philadelphia Eagles in 2023, but after a disappointing season, he was let go.
