Analyst Reveals Potential Trade Partner for Lions to Move Hendon Hooker

Analyst Suggests Potential Trade Suitor for Lions’ Hendon Hooker

Hendon Hooker’s future with the Detroit Lions has been a topic of speculation, especially with Jared Goff firmly entrenched as the starting quarterback. Hooker, drafted in 2023, has struggled to secure the No. 2 spot behind Goff, with even Teddy Bridgewater being signed as a backup during the 2024 season. At 27 years old, Hooker is halfway through his rookie contract, and the Lions are unlikely to keep three quarterbacks on the roster long term.

In a recent episode of PFT Live with Mike Florio, NBC analyst Rodney Harrison suggested a possible trade suitor for Hooker—the New York Jets. Harrison expressed strong interest in the Lions’ backup quarterback, praising Hooker as a “hidden gem” and a “mature” player who was a Heisman contender before his injury at Tennessee. Harrison believes Hooker has more potential than some of the quarterbacks in this year’s draft class, like Shedeur Sanders and Cam Ward. He also pointed out that Jets’ head coach Aaron Glenn had coached against Hooker during his time with the Lions, which could strengthen the connection between the two teams.

With the Jets in need of a quarterback following Aaron Rodgers’ departure, trading for Hooker could be a smart move. As Harrison put it, the Jets should “watch out for that name,” and reaching out to the Lions could be a step toward improving their QB depth.
