Micah Parsons Opens Up About Adapting to His Third Defensive Coordinator in Three Years

Change has become a constant for Dallas Cowboys linebacker Micah Parsons. As the team ushers in its third defensive coordinator in as many seasons, Parsons is once again preparing to adjust—this time under Matt Eberflus, who takes over following Dan Quinn’s departure.

Parsons acknowledges the challenges of learning a new system but remains focused on adapting.

“It’s just learning a new system and getting another coach’s adjustments to how I like to play, what I like to do . . . and implicate me,” Parsons said via the team’s website. “Obviously, it is challenging with a third [defensive coordinator] and is obviously not the greatest thing in the world but, I mean, that’s part of being a pro. You’ve got to make adjustments.”

Eberflus, known for his disciplined and turnover-driven defensive philosophy, has a history with Dallas, having served as the team’s linebackers coach from 2011 to 2018. His system prioritizes high effort, sound technique, and relentless pursuit of the football—a contrast to Quinn’s aggressive, high-pressure approach. However, the shift could provide Parsons with new opportunities to refine and elevate his game.

Despite the revolving door at defensive coordinator, Parsons has remained dominant, never recording fewer than 12 sacks in a season—even while missing four games in 2024 due to injury. His ability to excel in any system underscores his versatility and value to the Cowboys’ defense.

With Eberflus tasked with revamping a struggling unit, Parsons will once again be at the heart of the transition. But if his track record is any indication, he’s more than ready to rise to the challenge.
