Darius Slay Claps Back at Amon-Ra St. Brown Over Lions-Eagles 2025 Matchup
The 2025 NFL schedule won’t be released until May, but the anticipation is already building—especially for the potential showdown between the Detroit Lions and Philadelphia Eagles.
Lions wide receiver Amon-Ra St. Brown recently shared his thoughts on The St. Brown Podcast, saying he hopes Detroit faces the Eagles in Week 1. He believes it would be a chance to show what the Lions could have done in a hypothetical NFC Championship matchup—if their defense had been healthy.
Darius Slay wasn’t having it.
On his own podcast, Big Play Slay, the Eagles cornerback fired back at St. Brown’s comments:
“That team is not going to beat this team… You wake up and say, ‘Oh yeah, this is what would’ve happened if we played last year.’ No, you wouldn’t have, because that’s a different team.”
Slay emphasized that rosters change every year, with free agency and new contracts shifting team dynamics. In his mind, 2025 is a clean slate.
St. Brown Stands Firm
Despite Slay’s argument, St. Brown believes the Eagles’ core won’t change much, and Detroit’s returning defensive players will make a difference.
“You would see with our healthy defense how that [expletive] operates.”
While it remains to be seen if the Lions will land in the NFL’s season opener, one thing is clear—when these two teams meet in 2025, it’s going to be must-watch football.
