Jameson Williams Avoids NFL Suspension Over Gun Possession Case

Detroit Lions wide receiver Jameson Williams is in the clear with the NFL after an October traffic stop that briefly raised concerns about potential league discipline. According to the Detroit Free Press, the league has decided not to take action against Williams following an incident where police found two registered firearms in a car he was riding in.

Back in October, Williams was a passenger in a vehicle pulled over for speeding. During the stop, officers discovered two guns—one registered to his brother and the other to Williams himself. At the time, Williams didn’t have a permit to carry, leading to his temporary detainment. However, he was released without charges, and Wayne County Prosecutor Kym Worthy declined to pursue a warrant for his arrest.

The NFL’s personal conduct policy allows for discipline even without a criminal conviction, particularly for weapons violations. But in this case, the league chose not to penalize Williams, allowing him to move forward without any setbacks heading into his fourth NFL season.

Williams has had his fair share of league suspensions in the past. In 2023, he was suspended four games for violating the NFL’s gambling policy, and in 2024, he missed two games due to a performance-enhancing substance violation. Despite those bumps in the road, he’s coming off his best season yet, surpassing 1,000 receiving yards and scoring seven touchdowns in 2024. His electrifying speed and playmaking ability were on full display in the playoffs, including a stunning 61-yard end-around touchdown against the Washington Commanders.

Now, as the Lions head into the offseason, they face a big decision: whether to pick up Williams’ fifth-year option before the May deadline. If his 2024 breakout was any indication, the 23-year-old wideout is proving to be a key weapon in Detroit’s high-powered offense. With this latest issue behind him, all eyes are on what he can do next.
