Carlton Davis III Calls Dan Campbell His All-Time Favorite Coach—Here’s Why

Carlton Davis III on Dan Campbell: ‘He’s My Favorite Coach of All Time’

Detroit Lions cornerback Carlton Davis III didn’t hold back in his praise for head coach Dan Campbell, calling him his favorite coach ever. Davis, who played a key role in the Lions’ dominant 2024 season before suffering a season-ending broken jaw, shared an emotional story about Campbell’s leadership during a recent podcast appearance.

After a tough Week 2 loss to Tampa Bay, Davis recalled Campbell taking full responsibility in the locker room. “Bro, he was crying,” Davis said on The Slightly Decent Podcast. “He was really like, ‘Blame your coach. You can blame me.'” That level of accountability left a lasting impact on the veteran cornerback.

Davis, a former Super Bowl champion, also highlighted Campbell’s unwavering support for his players, both on and off the field. “He’s a real one,” Davis said. “That’s why I was out there trying to break my jaw for him.”

Despite Detroit’s playoff heartbreak, it’s clear that Campbell’s leadership has created a culture of loyalty and trust—a major reason why the Lions remain a top contender heading into 2025.
