Aidan Hutchinson Calls Potential Myles Garrett Trade to Lions ‘Deadly’
As the 2025 NFL offseason heats up, one of the biggest trade rumors in the league revolves around Cleveland Browns star pass rusher Myles Garrett. With Garrett reportedly wanting a change of scenery, speculation has linked him to multiple teams—including the Detroit Lions. And if you ask Aidan Hutchinson, that’s a move that would shake up the entire league.
Speaking on The Squeeze podcast with Taylor Lautner and his wife, Hutchinson admitted that while a trade may be unlikely, the idea of teaming up with Garrett is something he’s thought about. “If me and Myles were to pair up, that would be deadly,” Hutchinson said. “We were at the [NFL Honors show] just talking about what could be. Although it’s probably unlikely, I would be thrilled to play next to him if it were to happen. Our whole defensive line would be totally elevated—that would be a scary defensive line. We get along, too.”
For Lions fans, it’s a tantalizing thought. Hutchinson was on pace for a career year in 2024 before suffering a season-ending leg injury, leading the NFL with 7.5 sacks through five games. Pairing him with Garrett, a four-time first-team All-Pro and one of the most dominant edge rushers of his generation, would immediately transform Detroit’s defense.
But how realistic is the trade? While Detroit has been speculated as a potential landing spot, Cleveland has been notoriously hesitant to trade away franchise cornerstones—especially to contending teams. However, with Garrett openly requesting a trade earlier this month, there’s at least some level of uncertainty surrounding his future.
Even if the Lions don’t land Garrett, it’s clear they need to upgrade their pass rush. Hutchinson’s return will be a huge boost, but Detroit’s defense struggled late in the season, particularly in their playoff loss to Washington. Adding another premier edge rusher—whether through trade, free agency, or the draft—should be a priority as the team looks to take the next step toward a Super Bowl run.
For now, a Garrett-Hutchinson duo remains a dream. But in the NFL, crazier things have happened.
