The Detroit Lions have been named the best fit for former second overall pick Chase Young, an edge rusher who’s had a rollercoaster NFL career so far. Young, just 25 years old, was the Defensive Rookie of the Year in 2020 with 7.5 sacks and 24 pressures, but his production declined over the next two seasons, with only 1.5 sacks in 12 games.
However, Young bounced back in his fourth season with five sacks in his first seven games, and despite being traded to the San Francisco 49ers, he finished the season with respectable numbers, including seven sacks and 66 total pressures.
The Lions are interested in pairing Young with their current edge rusher, Aidan Hutchinson, who was also drafted second overall and has already made a significant impact with 28.5 sacks in just 39 games. With the Lions needing to boost their pass rush, which finished with the NFL’s 10th-least sacks in 2024, Young could be a great addition to their team.
