From Detroit to Columbus: Ex-Lions HC Joins Ohio State as DC

Matt Patricia Named Ohio State’s New Defensive Coordinator

Former Detroit Lions head coach Matt Patricia is making a surprising return to the college ranks, taking over as Ohio State’s defensive coordinator. Buckeyes head coach Ryan Day announced the hire, praising Patricia’s NFL experience and defensive expertise.

Patricia, who struggled in Detroit with a 13-29-1 record, has spent most of his career in the NFL, including a long stint with the New England Patriots, where he helped win three Super Bowls. After his firing from the Lions, he had short stints with the Patriots and Eagles but didn’t coach last season. Now, he’ll be tasked with leading one of college football’s top defenses.

Lions fans who also root for Michigan won’t be shy about voicing their opinions when Patricia returns to Ann Arbor for the Ohio State-Michigan rivalry game this fall.
