Aidan Hutchinson: Lions Will Keep Winning Despite Coaching Changes
The Detroit Lions are entering the 2025 season with a revamped coaching staff, as both offensive coordinator Ben Johnson and defensive coordinator Aaron Glenn have moved on to head coaching jobs. With John Morton and Kelvin Sheppard stepping in, some fans have voiced concerns about whether the team can maintain its momentum after an impressive 15-2 regular season in 2024.
But according to defensive star Aidan Hutchinson, there’s no reason to worry. Speaking on The Squeeze podcast, Hutchinson made it clear that he believes the Lions’ success is built on the strength of their roster, not just the coaches calling plays.
“I don’t care who they bring,” Hutchinson said. “Obviously keeping Dan (Campbell) there is what we all want. But coordinators, position coaches, it doesn’t matter. As long as we have the right guys in the locker room and those foundation guys on offense and on defense, you can roll anyone in there to call the plays. At the end of the day, it’s going to be the playmakers who are making those plays on Sundays.”
The Lions’ Culture Remains Strong
Hutchinson’s comments reflect the culture that Dan Campbell and GM Brad Holmes have built—a team-first mentality where players trust each other to perform, regardless of external changes. Losing respected coaches like Johnson and Glenn is never easy, but the Lions have put together a core group of leaders who expect to win no matter what.
Detroit has made it clear that they intend to keep their core intact, and with key players like Hutchinson, Jared Goff, Amon-Ra St. Brown, and Penei Sewell still leading the way, the Lions remain a legitimate contender in the NFC.
As Hutchinson put it, “As long as we keep our core group and keep everyone there, we’re going to stay in this window of winning.”
The Lions aren’t looking at 2024 as their peak—they see it as just the beginning.
