Lions’ Blockbuster Trade Proposal Could Bring 4-Time All-Pro DE to Detroit

Detroit Eyes Major Defensive Upgrade with Potential Myles Garrett Trade

The Detroit Lions have transformed from perennial underdogs into serious Super Bowl contenders, thanks to a disciplined, methodical approach to roster building. However, as they stand on the brink of greatness, some analysts believe it’s time for a bold move—one that could bring a dominant force to their defensive front.

A Big Splash for Myles Garrett?

Jeff Risdon of USA Today’s Lions Wire recently explored two offseason strategies for Detroit: one that continues their conservative, calculated team-building approach and another that involves a game-changing acquisition—trading for Cleveland Browns’ star defensive end, Myles Garrett.

While Cleveland remains adamant about keeping their defensive cornerstone, Garrett’s potential availability has sparked speculation. Risdon proposed an aggressive trade package that could entice the Browns:

  • Detroit receives: DE Myles Garrett, a 2025 fifth-round pick, and a 2026 second-round pick.
  • Cleveland receives: Two first-round picks (2025 & 2026), two third-round picks (2025 & 2026), and DT Brodric Martin.

This package represents a significant investment from the Lions, but given Garrett’s dominance—five consecutive Pro Bowl appearances and four All-Pro selections—it could be the move that solidifies their defense as championship-caliber.

Why Garrett Makes Sense for Detroit

Aidan Hutchinson has been Detroit’s lone pass-rushing force, leading the team with 7.5 sacks before a season-ending leg injury. However, the Lions have struggled to generate consistent pressure outside of him. Garrett, who remains one of the league’s most disruptive defenders, could provide the missing piece to elevate Detroit’s defense to an elite level.

NFL analyst Daniel Jeremiah recently weighed in on the potential fit, saying, “Detroit has the roster that’s ready to win right now, ready to win a championship. That could be a finishing piece.”

Browns’ Stance: Unlikely to Move Garrett

Despite the tempting offer, Cleveland is expected to stand firm. Risdon acknowledged that the financial and cap implications of trading Garrett make it nearly impossible. Likewise, Jeremiah added that league insiders do not anticipate the Browns letting him go.

“Everything in talking to people as of late around the league, the expectation is, ‘No, they’re not going to move him. He’s not going to go anywhere,’” Jeremiah said on a conference call, per SB Nation’s Pride of Detroit.

Should the Lions Push Forward?

While the likelihood of a deal remains slim, the idea of pairing Garrett with Hutchinson is enticing. As Detroit aims to maximize its Super Bowl window, the front office may have to decide whether an all-in move like this is worth the cost.

If Brad Holmes and the Lions leadership believe Garrett is the final piece to bring a Lombardi Trophy to Detroit, they may be willing to test the Browns’ resolve. Whether Cleveland listens or not, the message is clear—the Lions are ready to make a championship push.
