Detroit’s Super Bowl Push: Bold Proposal to Land Myles Garrett

Could the Lions Make a Game-Changing Move?

The Detroit Lions have been methodically crafting a championship-caliber team over the past few seasons. With a solid foundation in place, they now face a pivotal decision—stick to their measured approach or take a bold leap that could push them over the top.

One potential blockbuster move gaining traction involves acquiring four-time All-Pro defensive end Myles Garrett from the Cleveland Browns. While the possibility remains uncertain, the idea has sparked excitement among analysts and fans alike.

A Big Swing for a Defensive Superstar

NFL analyst Jeff Risdon of USA Today’s Lions Wire recently explored two different offseason approaches for Detroit. One scenario maintains the team’s steady, calculated roster-building strategy. The other, however, suggests a daring move—trading for Myles Garrett in a “big splash” acquisition.

Garrett, one of the league’s most dominant pass rushers, would immediately transform Detroit’s defense. While the Browns may be reluctant to part ways with their defensive cornerstone, Risdon believes an enticing offer could force them to reconsider.

The Trade Package: What Would It Take?

For Detroit to land Garrett, the cost would be steep. According to Risdon, the Lions would need to offer:

  • Two first-round picks (2025 and 2026)
  • Two third-round picks (one in each of the next two drafts)
  • Defensive tackle Brodric Martin

In return, the Browns would send Garrett to Detroit, along with a 2025 fifth-round pick and a 2026 second-round pick.

Such a deal would signal the Lions’ intent to compete for a Super Bowl immediately. But would the Browns entertain the idea?

Browns’ Reluctance to Trade Garrett

Despite the enticing offer, the Browns are expected to stand firm. NFL insider Daniel Jeremiah noted that league sources believe Cleveland has no intention of moving their star defender.

“Everything in talking to people as of late around the league, the expectation is, ‘No, they’re not going to move him. He’s not going to go anywhere.’ We’ll see what happens,” Jeremiah stated.

Even so, that may not deter Detroit. With their roster built to win now, Lions general manager Brad Holmes could be tempted to push aggressively for a deal.

Would Garrett Complete Detroit’s Defense?

Adding Garrett to the Lions’ defensive front could be a game-changer. While Aidan Hutchinson has emerged as a star, Detroit has struggled to generate a consistent pass rush beyond him. Last season, Hutchinson led the team with 7.5 sacks before suffering a season-ending injury—no other Lions defender came close to matching his impact.

Garrett’s presence would immediately alleviate that issue, giving Detroit a feared pass-rushing duo that could disrupt even the best offensive lines.

Is It Worth the Gamble?

The Lions have built their success on smart, calculated moves. But sometimes, a bold decision can be the difference between being a contender and a champion.

If Detroit does pull the trigger on this trade, it could be the move that brings a Lombardi Trophy to the Motor City. However, with Cleveland hesitant to let go of their defensive anchor, the Lions may need to prepare for a long negotiation—if not an outright rejection.

For now, fans can only wait and wonder: will Detroit make the leap, or will they stick to their patient approach?
