Lions Poised to Pursue Khalil Mack in Free Agency
As the Detroit Lions aim to bolster their pass rush this offseason, veteran edge rusher Khalil Mack has emerged as a strong potential target. At 34 years old, Mack’s production dipped last season, with his sack total falling from 17 in 2023 to six. However, his pass-rush win rate and pressure numbers remain impressive, and he’s still a top-tier edge rusher in terms of overall effectiveness.
Adding Mack to a defensive line already featuring Aidan Hutchinson and Za’Darius Smith could create a formidable pass-rushing trio, making it a move that makes too much sense for the Lions. With over $40 million in cap space, Detroit is in a prime position to make a serious offer, potentially using void years to manage the cap hit.
Mack’s experience and playmaking ability could push the Lions’ defense to new heights as they look to contend for a Super Bowl. With a projected market value ranging from $45 million to $70 million over two to three years, Mack won’t come cheap, but the Lions’ win-now window makes them an attractive option in free agency.
