Lions, Aidan Hutchinson Set the Stage for Massive Contract Extension

Lions, Aidan Hutchinson Working on Contract Extension
The Detroit Lions and their star pass-rusher Aidan Hutchinson are in the early stages of negotiating a contract extension, according to GM Brad Holmes.

Hutchinson, who was a dominant force last season before a leg injury sidelined him in October, is eligible for an extension as part of the 2022 draft class. Given his performance—7.5 sacks in just five games and NFC Defensive Player of the Month honors in September—he’s expected to command top-tier money.

Holmes acknowledged the difficulty of adding another high-end pass-rusher to complement Hutchinson, pointing out that elite EDGE players are both hard to find and expensive to keep.

“We’re already in the planning stages with him,” Holmes said at the NFL Combine. “But financially, adding another premier guy at that position is tough.”

The good news? Hutchinson looks on track for 2025, recently posting a video of himself running on turf. With a big payday likely coming, the Lions will have to be strategic about their defensive investments moving forward.
