Georgia Tech TE Jackson Hawes Has That Gritty, Hard-Nosed Style the Lions Love
The Detroit Lions have built their roster around toughness and physicality, and Georgia Tech tight end Jackson Hawes fits that mold perfectly. While he’s not a household name and tight end isn’t a top priority for Detroit, his style of play makes him an intriguing late-round option.
Hawes, a Yale transfer, isn’t just a blocker—though he prides himself on his physicality, saying he aims to “punish” defenders and put his facemask under their chinstraps. At 6’4”, 252 pounds, he made an impact at the Senior Bowl, showcasing his strong run-blocking skills while flashing reliable hands with a few impressive catches.
Projected as a fifth-round pick, Hawes could add a nasty edge to Detroit’s tight end room, complementing Sam LaPorta and Brock Wright. The Lions have prioritized physical, high-motor players, and Hawes checks all the boxes for a potential TE3 role.
