NFL Combine Day 3 Recap: WRs & RBs Who Could Fit the Lions

Lions Connections at NFL Combine: Familiar Faces and Potential Draft Fits
The Detroit Lions’ presence at the NFL Combine isn’t just about scouting talent—it’s also a reunion for some prospects with the team’s new coaching staff. Several draft-eligible players have worked with Detroit’s recently hired assistants, giving them insight into what the Lions are building.

Stanford WR Elic Ayomanor met with the Lions and spoke highly of pass game coordinator David Shaw, his former head coach. At 6-foot-2, 210 pounds, Ayomanor is a physical wideout who models his game after A.J. Brown. His breakout performance—294 yards and three touchdowns against Colorado—showed his big-play potential.

Iowa State WR Jayden Higgins praised Lions tight ends coach Tyler Roehl’s energy and leadership. A 6-foot-4, 215-pound X-receiver, Higgins is a contested-catch specialist with surprising agility. He finished 10th in the nation in receiving yards last season and has the versatility to play inside or outside.

Iowa State WR Jaylin Noel also spoke highly of Roehl, calling him a relentless motivator. Listed at 5-foot-11, 200 pounds, Noel thrives on speed and route control. With over 90 career returns, his special teams ability could make him an appealing mid-to-late-round option.

Texas RB Jaydon Blue has a strong connection with Lions running backs coach Tashard Choice, calling him the best coach he’s ever had. Blue, a potential late-round or undrafted free agent, believes he can run a 4.1 or 4.2 in the 40-yard dash—if he delivers, his stock could skyrocket.

With so many familiar faces, don’t be surprised if one of these players lands in Detroit come April.
