Brad Holmes Blueprint: What the Lions’ Dream 3-Round Draft Looks Like

Ideal 3-Round Lions Draft Haul? This Mock Fits Brad Holmes’ Style
With the Detroit Lions now a top-tier team, Brad Holmes isn’t locked into drafting for need—he’s focused on getting the best players available. That philosophy was on full display at the NFL Combine when Holmes reiterated, “We’re not a needs-based drafting team. We just get the best football player for us.”

That said, the Lions still have some key positions to address, and a new three-round mock draft from Pro Football Focus’ Bradley Locker feels like a blueprint Holmes could actually follow. Here’s how it plays out:

Round 1 (Pick No. 28): Nic Scourton, EDGE, Texas A&M

At just 20 years old, Scourton has high upside and could thrive playing alongside Aidan Hutchinson. He wasn’t as dominant in 2024, but his 80.8 PFF pass-rushing grade shows his potential.
Round 2 (Pick No. 60): Azareye’h Thomas, CB, Florida State

Another young, high-upside player (also 20 years old), Thomas has the size and physicality Detroit likes in its defensive backs. With the Lions’ secondary in flux, adding him makes a lot of sense.
Round 3 (Projected Pick No. 101): Tate Ratledge, G, Georgia

A three-year starter at right guard, Ratledge plays with what draft analysts call a “dirt-dog mentality”—the kind of toughness that screams Dan Campbell guy. With Kevin Zeitler potentially leaving and Graham Glasgow aging, Ratledge could be an immediate contributor.
This draft class would check off several important boxes: a pass rusher with upside, a scheme-fit cornerback, and a tough-nosed interior lineman. Holmes has always prioritized talent over strict positional needs, and this haul reflects that approach.

Lions fans—how would you feel about this draft class?
