NBA Fines Anthony Edwards $35K for Post-Ejection Incident, Bringing Season Total to $320K

Timberwolves Star Faces Another Penalty Amid Season of Costly Fines

Minnesota Timberwolves guard Anthony Edwards has been fined once again, this time receiving a $35,000 penalty for his actions following an ejection during a recent game. The All-Star’s latest infraction brings his season total in fines to a staggering $320,000.

A Costly Night for Edwards

The NBA’s latest fine was issued after Edwards failed to leave the court promptly following his ejection and proceeded to throw the ball into the stands. The incident occurred during Minnesota’s matchup against the Los Angeles Lakers on Thursday, a game that saw Edwards pick up his second technical foul, leading to his automatic ejection.

With that, the 23-year-old reached 16 technical fouls for the season, triggering an automatic one-game suspension. He served that suspension during Minnesota’s loss to the Utah Jazz on Friday.

A Season of Repeated Infractions

This fine marks the sixth time the NBA has penalized Edwards this season, with most previous incidents stemming from the use of profane language in postgame interviews. His latest trouble arose after a heated exchange over a non-call when Lakers guard Gabe Vincent appeared to make contact on a drive. Edwards, frustrated with the lack of a foul call, directed profanity at an official—prompting his second technical.

His first technical of the night came earlier in the game after a brief physical altercation with Lakers forward Jarred Vanderbilt.

Coach Finch Weighs In

Timberwolves head coach Chris Finch acknowledged that Edwards needs to show more restraint, saying, “He knows he needs to get better. Hopefully, it’s gotten to a point where it has boiled over and he learns his lesson going forward.”

Edwards had previously vowed to avoid further technical fouls, but his growing total suggests that keeping his emotions in check remains a work in progress. Under NBA rules, for every two additional technical fouls he accumulates, he will face another suspension, increasing in length with each violation.

With Minnesota pushing for a strong playoff position, the Timberwolves will hope their young star finds a way to channel his passion into performance—without the costly consequences.
