Jaguars Zeroing In: Carlton Davis Emerges as Top Free Agency Target

The Jacksonville Jaguars are reportedly interested in signing cornerback Carlton Davis in free agency. According to ESPN’s Jeremy Fowler, the Jaguars view Davis as a potential target to fortify their secondary.

Davis, who had his 2024 season cut short due to a broken jaw, is considered one of the top cornerbacks available in free agency. He started 13 games for the Detroit Lions in 2024, showcasing his skills as a physical cornerback.

The Jaguars’ interest in Davis makes sense, given their need for secondary help. The team allowed the most passing yards per game in 2024 and is looking to upgrade their cornerback position. Davis’s physical playing style aligns with the team’s desire to become more physical under new head coach Liam Coen.

It’s worth noting that the Jaguars may face competition for Davis’s services. Other teams, including NFC North rivals, may also be interested in signing him. The Lions, Davis’s current team, may also attempt to re-sign him.

The Jaguars have approximately $38 million in cap space available, which should provide them with sufficient financial flexibility to make a competitive offer for Davis. However, the team’s approach to free agency is expected to be cautious, with a focus on signing players who fit their system and provide value.
