Allen Robinson Considering Retirement While Mapping Out His Next Move

Detroit Native Allen Robinson Weighing Retirement After 11 NFL Seasons

Allen Robinson’s NFL career has come full circle, but his time on the field may be nearing an end. After signing with his hometown Detroit Lions last season, the veteran wide receiver is now a free agent and contemplating whether to return for another year or step away from the game for good.

Robinson, who played in 12 games for the Lions but had just three catches for 30 yards, spoke to Dave Birkett of the Detroit Free Press at the NFL Combine and acknowledged he’s taking time to evaluate his future. “I wanted to look back and have no regrets,” he said. “I’ve put everything I have into this game. Now, it’s about figuring out what the next chapter looks like for me.”

One possibility? A career in media. Robinson has already started making moves in that direction, co-hosting Sirius XM NFL Radio during the Combine and working on a three-part documentary about NFL free agency that will debut on Roku this spring. He also attended the NFL’s broadcasting and media workshop last year, signaling that he’s serious about transitioning into the industry.

A Detroit native and Orchard Lake St. Mary’s alum, Robinson was a second-round pick in the 2014 draft by the Jacksonville Jaguars. Over his 11-year career, he also played for the Chicago Bears, Los Angeles Rams, Pittsburgh Steelers, and New York Giants, racking up three 1,000-yard seasons and a Pro Bowl selection in 2015.

With a decade-plus in the league, a growing media presence, and a young family to consider, Robinson’s decision on whether to continue playing will be one to watch in the coming weeks. Will he return for one last season, possibly even with the Lions? Or is it time for him to trade in his cleats for a microphone?
