Lions’ Reunion with Darius Slay Might Be in the Cards After Eagles’ Surprise Cut

Could the Lions and Darius Slay Reunite After His Eagles Exit?
Darius Slay’s time with the Philadelphia Eagles is coming to an end, and the six-time Pro Bowl cornerback has already hinted at where he’d like to go next. Detroit, where his NFL journey began, could be an ideal landing spot.

Slay, 34, was recently released as a cap casualty, but he remains a capable veteran presence. He made a Pro Bowl as recently as 2023 and has been vocal about wanting to play one more season. On Amon-Ra St. Brown’s podcast, he acknowledged his desire to return to the Lions, now that Dan Campbell has built a winning culture.

Detroit’s secondary could use a steady veteran, especially with Carlton Davis hitting free agency and young corners Terrion Arnold and Ennis Rakestraw still developing. Adding Slay would bring experience and leadership to a group already anchored by safeties Kerby Joseph and Brian Branch.

While Slay isn’t the lockdown corner he once was, he still has the instincts and playmaking ability to contribute. If the Lions want to shore up their pass defense for another deep playoff run, a Slay reunion could make perfect sense.
