With the NFL Draft approaching, speculation is heating up about what the Detroit Lions will do with their first-round pick. General manager Brad Holmes has been known for his unpredictability, having traded both up and down in previous drafts. Now, analysts are considering whether the Lions might trade back from their 28th overall pick to stockpile more draft capital.

Pro Football Focus analyst Trevor Sikkema sees Detroit as more likely to move back than trade up, though he believes an impact edge rusher could fall to them late in the first round. With this year’s draft being especially strong in the trenches, the Lions could benefit from adding depth on both sides of the ball. Holmes has been efficient with his assets, and trading back could allow Detroit to secure additional second- or third-round picks while still addressing key needs.

Edge rushers like Penn State’s Abdul Carter, Marshall’s Mike Green, Georgia’s Jalon Walker, and Texas A&M’s Shemar Stewart are among the top prospects at the position. Whether the Lions stay put or trade back, expect them to prioritize strengthening their defensive front.
