Carlton Davis Hints at Free Agency Exit from Detroit
The Detroit Lions made a big move last offseason to address their secondary, trading a third-round pick to Tampa Bay for veteran cornerback Carlton Davis. Now, just a year later, Davis appears ready to hit the open market.

With NFL free agency approaching, Davis took to social media with a pointed message: “I won’t make the same mistake twice. If you want your defense upgraded y’all know who to pay. Turn on the Tape!”

While the Lions had hoped to retain Davis, his tweet suggests he’s preparing to explore offers from other teams. The 28-year-old had a solid 2024 season despite injury struggles, holding opposing quarterbacks to a 55.3% completion rate.

Detroit still has a need at cornerback, but re-signing Davis could be difficult given their financial priorities. With extensions for Aidan Hutchinson and Kerby Joseph in the works, the Lions may not have the cap flexibility to win a bidding war for Davis, especially in a market where he’s one of the top available corners.

If Davis departs, the Lions will once again be searching for veteran help at cornerback this offseason.
