All-Pro Upgrade: Lions Predicted to Trade for $97M Talent to Boost Secondary

The Detroit Lions are expected to lose their top cornerback, Carlton Davis, to free agency. Davis has expressed his desire to test the open market and get paid.

To replace Davis, Pro Football and Sports Network’s Sterling Xie predicts the Lions will trade for Dallas Cowboys cornerback Trevon Diggs. Diggs, 27, has had an impressive start to his NFL career, earning First Team All-Pro honors in his second season and a Pro Bowl spot in his third.

Diggs has struggled with injuries in recent seasons but has shown promising form when healthy. In 2024, he held opposing quarterbacks to a 60% completion percentage and allowed only 7.2 yards per attempt.

The Lions would need to consider the cost of acquiring Diggs, who is under contract for four more years. However, the dead cap on his deal becomes manageable after the 2025 season, giving the Lions flexibility if the move doesn’t work out.

Diggs could be a long-term solution for the Lions’ secondary, and his ability to make big plays could be worth the investment.
