Bengals Open Trade Talks for Trey Hendrickson—8 Teams That Make Sense

Detroit Lions Named Top Landing Spot for Trey Hendrickson in Potential Trade

The Detroit Lions have emerged as the top potential landing spot for star pass rusher Trey Hendrickson, who has been granted permission by the Cincinnati Bengals to seek a trade. According to reports, the Bengals are looking to move on from the All-Pro defensive end despite his dominant play, including back-to-back 17.5-sack seasons. With one year remaining on his contract and no guaranteed money left, Hendrickson presents an attractive trade option for teams looking to bolster their pass rush.

For the Lions, this could be a golden opportunity. Last season, Aidan Hutchinson suffered a broken leg, exposing Detroit’s lack of defensive line depth. The team traded for Za’Darius Smith to help fill the gap, but adding Hendrickson would take their pass rush to an elite level. A Hutchinson-Hendrickson duo could wreak havoc on opposing quarterbacks, significantly improving a Detroit defense that struggled at times in 2024.

Detroit has the cap space to absorb Hendrickson’s contract, with $51 million available, and could even work out an extension to secure his services beyond 2025. With the Bengals looking to clear salary and reload defensively, the Lions could make an aggressive move to acquire one of the league’s top sack artists. If Detroit wants to take the next step toward Super Bowl contention, upgrading the defensive front with a proven game-changer like Hendrickson might be the way to do it.
