Vikings Move On from Sam Darnold, Clearing the Path for the Lions
The Minnesota Vikings are reportedly moving on from Sam Darnold, leaving J.J. McCarthy as their likely starter in 2025. While they’re expected to add a veteran—possibly Daniel Jones or even Aaron Rodgers—the Lions’ path to a third straight NFC North title just got smoother.
Darnold’s 2024 season was a surprise success, leading the Vikings to a 14-3 record before a Wild Card loss to the Rams. But with Minnesota resetting at quarterback, the Lions remain the division’s most stable team with Jared Goff under center and John Morton continuing to shape the offense.
With Detroit’s Super Bowl window still wide open, this offseason could further cement their hold on the NFC North.
